A quick cleanup

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I haven’t had time to shoot anything in a while and grabbed my camera today and went hunting. I came across this guy and thought – a black bird in the shade… Why not. This was the first frame and the only one where he was preening.

Holy cow! I love this! We have scrub turkeys here that look fairly similar.

I really like the preening pose. Super sharp . I love seeing the cascade of feathers falling. His/her head (the most important part, to me) is clear from the bakground but the image shows a very nice habitat.

Hi Diane, really nice preening pose you captured with fantastic details. Love seeing the splayed out tail feathers. Interesting branches provide a nice backdrop. Well done.

Turkey vultures rarely sit in the shade and this one provided you with some nice dappled shadows. Preening looks good and details are nice and sharp. This one is fine as presented…Jim

Unique look at a vulture. Great facial detail and good color and detail in the feathers. Like the tree. Well done, Diane.

A very different image of a Turkey Vulture, Diane. It works very well.

Thanks, @Glenys_Passier, @Allen_Sparks, @Jim_Zablotny, @Allen_Brooks and @Dennis_Plank! It was a fun encounter as I usually see them riding thermals at about 1000 ft. And now I see the sky is a strange color. I’ll lean it toward cyan but won’t bother to re-post.

Interesting that you consider the sky an odd color. In our area, this would be considered pretty close to reality. I’m often a bit put off by the rather cyan skies from the California contingent with the dryer climate there. Apparently the moisture level creates a significant shift in sky color.
