Turkey Vulture

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There’s a place in Malheur, The P-Ranch, where the vultures like to roost and hang out in the morning. I liked the pose and the setting in this image.

Know the place well! But I’ve never gotten a decent vulture image there…
This is cool. I like the “different” wing position. He looks dejected!
You had some tough light to deal with here.
I’d suggest trying to darken the BG a bit, and bring out the reds on that bald head.
Nice catch, Allen!

The pose and sharpness are excellent. The highlights are controlled and I think this one is fine as presented…Jim

HI Allen
I guess even Vulture can have a bad day. Everything about this photograph says, “This is just going to be one of those days.” Nice work.

Hi Allen,

What a pleasure to see the vultures at P-Ranch playing a starring role. It’s not easy to create interest and empathy for carrion eaters, but you pulled it off. I wonder if the downward position of the wings was a method of warming up on a cold morning?

Excellent, Allen. As noted,it’s a different pose and angle and one that I find very effective. The side light on the face works well. Very nicely done.
