Morning Vulture

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was driving on a remote country road this morning and spotted a turkey vulture in a nearby tree. It allowed me to stop and get out with my camera (which was in the back) and just as I got positioned, it spread its wings to the morning sun behind it as if on queue. I thankfully took the offer.

Very neat backlight on this image, Dave. Adjusting the exposure to get some detail in the darker plumage also made the branches in the area work well. Was there a branch or something in front of the breast? It almost looks like there’s a smudge from just above the legs going up our left side of the body about 3/4 of the way.

Its body was solid black so I slightly lightened it in an attempt to pop the body a bit. Nothing was in front of it.

Interesting. Thanks for the note, Dave.

Very nice capture. A rather imposing look at a vulture. I like the light shining through the wings and the cloudy background.

Hi Dave, really nice vulture pose against that blue/cloudy background. Love the light highlighting the wing tips.
