A ridgeline on a smoky day

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There was a fire in this area, contained but still smoldering. It wasn’t great air to breathe but the diffuse light and the color cast made for some interesting photos.

I was traveling with my wife. She doesn’t get excited watching me set up a tripod so I shot hand-held.

Specific Feedback

Any and all comments welcome.

Technical Details

ISO 1000, 232mm, f/11, 1/400th.

That’s a fascinating effect Don, it’s almost like there are missing color channels; very engaging. Including so much empty space adds to that in a good way.

Thanks, John. The smoky air worked like a yellow filter so, in a sense, there are missing color channels.

Boy, can I relate to this statement!

I’m sure the smoke make it difficult to spend much time on this shot but it looks very nice to me. Even with all the smoke, you captured plenty of detail, and the muted colors work well.

Thanks, Steve. There are photo outings and there are trips with my wife. I’ve learned to keep the two separate.
