African White Backed Vulture

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This vulture was waiting its turn at a lion kill. Unfortunately, it didn’t partake because as soon as the lions left the area, hyenas came and took the remains.

Specific Feedback

Some color has been brought out in the sky by upping the Dehaze slider and then reducing the saturation and contrast sliders to reduce the effect and give some tonality to the otherwise grey sky.
Portrait orientation didn’t work that well as it left too much sky above the bird.

Technical Details

Shot a 1/1000, f/8, Auto ISO and +1 EC at 500 mm. Cropped to 5400 X 3600

Really nice image Richard. The starkness of the branches and sky go well with the bird here. Fine sharpness too. Composition looks good to me. I like the backwards glance of the bird as well.

Nice image of the vulture and a perfect perch for one, Richard. I like the composition and the technical details look great.

A cool catch! The dark tree compliments the vulture perfectly, and the bit of blue accents both. Really nice detail and head-turn.

Hi Richard
I think the framing is well balanced, with the Vulture’s head turn and the large tree on the right side of the frame.
