Agami Heron

This is a rare bird even in Costa Rica. This was taken in a very dirty pond behind a lodge. Dappled light with heavy canopy. Unable to use flash. I had to clone away a fair number of out of focus specular highlights. Hopefully it isn’t too bad. I was very happy to even see one of these. Unable to use flash.

Hi David,
What a great looking Heron!
I really like the setting with the muted reflection in the water.
There’s really nothing about it that I don’t like and the fact that you now have a photo of a rare species is always a plus!
Looks like you did a good job at cloning, too.

Amazing photo, David. It is a great composition and a wonderful shot of this rare bird.

I agree with the others on all accounts. Thanks for posting this rare bird. I always love seeing birds I don’t know anything about.

Wow, what a cool bird and your comp is perfect. When I first saw it, I thought you had taken a Great Blue Heron image and warped it or something. Awesome. image.

Very well done!! I don’t see any evidence of cleanup.

What beautiful rich colours and interesting composition. I like this very much.

Nicely captured with some difficult lighting. You handled it well. Great Bird!

Great subject, beautifully captured !
Looks like our Purple Heron.
