This was taken in Northwest Iowa, while I was traveling home from college. I had noticed the barn as I had driven this particular route several times, and decided to stop and capture the image, as I had a camera on me and really enjoyed the overall scene with the snow and the way the sky looked in the background. The barn has been replaced since I took this images, so I feel lucky I was able to get a picture of this particular barn.
I took this image several years ago, and have re-edited it as I have learned new techniques, mostly as a black and white conversion.

How does the black and white conversion look? I have tried to give it a traditional b&w film feeling.
Are there any technical aspects of the edit I should work on?
How does the composition work for for the viewer? Are there any distracting elements?

Welcome to “Everything Else”, Ian. I think you did an excellent job getting a B&W film feel in this image and I really like the composition. What looks like late winter/early spring half melted snow adds to the somewhat antique feel of the image, though the barn loos as if it were in pretty good condition for a structure of its apparent age. Very nicely done.
Looks great in B&W !!! The contrast really works and you can feel the simplicity of the barn in the image… You captured your vision !!! I really like that you kept the trees in the BG !!! Well Done !!!
A wonderful scene, well captured and presented! I love the darker base and the hint of detail in the sky. The trees in the BG balance the composition very nicely. No suggestions!! I see this is your first post and extend a hearty welcome to NPN!! Your web site has some lovely work and I look forward to seeing more of your photography here!
Ian: Please accept my welcome to NPN and thanks for a terrific first post. You have brought out the character of this place exceptionally well IMO. A small point that suggests the advanced age of the barn is the 13 star American flag. Makes one wonder if this was taken in 1785. Very nicely composed, captured and presented. Most excellent. >=))>
