American Kestrel Portrait

I was able to get fairly close to the Kestrel, which is unusual for me. I made this a portrait as he was standing on a nest box.

Excellent pose, detail and lighting, Allen. A fine portrait. Congratulations on getting close enough for it and finding a specimen in such beautiful condition.

I’m in awe of anyone who can get that close to a Kestrel! Lovely pose and detail on the breast, but it looks like a tiny bit of movement in the head. Oddly, the beak is sharp so maybe some ruffled feathers? Small nit, though.

Yes, it is nice to get this close. The portrait view works well. I do however agree with Diane with regards to some of the less well focused parts of the birds head. The beak does seem really sharp but there does appear to be some movement in this plumage on the rest of the head. I don’t know if Topaz sharpen would improve the situation but it might be worth a try.
