An Aloe

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve always liked the sculptural shapes that can be found at the junction of an aloe. The sidelight coming from the morning sun allowed me to get a lot of contrast here.

Specific Feedback

I have no specific questions but fresh eyes often spot unnoticed errors.

Technical Details

ISO 200, 200mm, f/11, 1/80th.

Interesting image and I love the tonalities, Don. The shapes are exquisite. I’m not sure which it is, but to me it feels like it could either use a bit of counter-clockwise rotation or filling in that blank area on the left-I’m not sure which or whether it’s both.

I think the blank area on the left is the problem. I lightened it to separate it from the dark areas it bordered but I think that was a mistake. This is close to how it looked before I lightened it.

I agree, Don. The darker tone works much better at filling in that space.

Don: Like you I love the lines in aloes and your conversion depicts them well. I do prefer your rework but this is good vision and a very pleasing conversion. :+1: :+1: >=))>

Thanks, Bill. We both have a fondness for succulents.

Wow!!! I love those elegant curves and the way the center is just above the bottom of the frame! They are evocative of a pinwheel. Wonderful lighting! No nits!

Diane, I appreciate the comments. Glad you like this one.
