The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was drawn to the shapes and colors in this plant.

Specific Feedback

Is it interesting? Any aspect of processing you’d change?

I have a couple of doubts about this shot. One is that the relative symmetry may make it boring to some people. The other is that, for some viewers, it may be a purely documentary shot without much soul.

Technical Details

ISO 100, 100mm, f/20, .3 sec.

I find this interesting, Don, and I think you found an excellent angle from which to shoot it. I like the patterns and the shapes of the leaves appeal to me. It also keeps challenging me to find a way to level it to make everything symmetrical in a biological world that doesn’t like absolute symmetry.

Don: In 2024 I had several really good experiences with succulents so I appreciate every image I see of them. This is really good IMO. I especially like the color palette and color patterns. The only tiny nit I have is that I would like that one point on the right to have a bit more room. My eye went immediately to that sharp point being so close to the frame. Another 10-15 pixels would probably be enough. That may reveal a subconscious seeking for symmetry on my part. Overall I think this is frame filling fantastic. >=))>

Thanks, Dennis. True, not much in nature is absolutely symmetrical.

Bill, thanks for the comments. You’re right that it would be better to have more room on the right. I should have been more alert to that when I cropped it. I revised it and posted the revision above.

Nice job on the repost, Don. That little bit of extra room made a big difference.

Repost looks good. I like the radial patterns which provides an overall abstraction to this highly detailed scene…Jim

Dennis, Jim, thanks.
