Anacapa Arch

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This was taken from a sportfishing boat on our way back in from a day fishing. Anacapa is the closest Channel Island to mainland in the Channel Islands NP.

Specific Feedback

It was mid afternoon and the sky was very bright, leading to deep shadow on the face of the cliff on the left. I raised the shadows and lowered the blacks significantly.

Technical Details

Canon 5dMiii, f8, 1/400 sec, iso 100, 24-105 lens at 88 mm

Hi Ed,
I preferred the bnw image as it concentrates the focus on the arch; its form and texture. I biked this area many moons ago, but remain astonished that the force of water can create these shapes. I think I would have cropped this as a pano or I would have cropped out the left side to include only the rocks that have light shining on them.

Thank you for your thoughts on this @madd_laura.
