Backlit Blanket Flower

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been trying to photograph the life cycle of these blooms (I think I’m going to need an artificial background), but while I was out this morning, the sun came out and I couldn’t resist photographing this stage of the flower. As the flower ages the center forms this spherical appearance and then the petals drop off and it has this cool look for a while until the seeds and their little filaments form and the rest drops off.

Specific Feedback

I brought the brightness of the center up quit a bit to give it just a hint of detail-was it too much or not enough?

Technical Details

Sony A7Riv, FE 200-600 + 1.4 TC @ 280 mm, tripod with cable release, f/32, 1/250, iso 1600. Processed mostly in LR with a little cleanup in PS. Taken at 7:46 this morning.

I don’t know these flowers, but my immediate thought is to want a little more detail in the darks. The rim light is powerful enough to hold up to it. Well seen and presented!

I’d like a bit more detail/colour too, without changing the amount of backlighting. That’s a really interesting flower, Dennis. This shot might also look good in B and W.
