One of the few times I’ve gotten lucky. We were sitting outside having coffee. Most times I have my camera with me on the off chance I can photograph a bird or a passing fox. This one just looked at us. I did not move so not to scare it so the grass blade is covering one eye. I had my 400 lens so I was at a good distance. I feel this fox was observing us as much as we were observing it.

Martha: Beautiful fox and a fine capture. I would be sorely tempted to try a little AI magic on the OOF grass spots on the face and chest and also see if you could make the grass on the eye go away. Must have been a wonderful experience with a fine subject and great light. >=))>
Hi Bill, Thank you! Yes it was a wonderful experience. Respectfully, I am not sure I’d want to remove the blade of grass as this is typical with animals in their natural environment. If someone was to get this image to frame and wanted me to remove it to hang, I would. Thanks again for the feedback.
When I see a capture like this, I always have the thought that the critter is trying for some camouflage. One thing I would try, if the image was mine, is to burn down the highlights in the BG, but it won’t be simple.
Martha, a wonderful and rare wildlife experience, when you’re sitting quietly and the animal approaches and finally realizes that you’re there. This captures very nicely that surprised look on the animal’s face. To me, the so called flaws in the image, show well the uniqueness of the situation. That is one very intent stare…
