Balsamroot

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Another from the same session as the one with the bee. Different blossom and I decided to eliminate the symmetry of the bloom by cropping to 1/4 of it.

Specific Feedback

Is this too conventional a presentation to provide interest? I’m hoping getting in pretty close to reveal some of the small details compensates for that, but I’m not sure it does.

Technical Details

Sony A7Rv, FE70-200 f/4 macro @ 190 mm, tripod, f/9, 1/800, iso 640. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 3970x2963. The relatively severe crop was to keep it tight enough that none of the petals terminated within the frame. Microcontrast enhancement of the bloom and evened out the various shades of green in the background to the darker tones.

Dennis: Works great for me and the edge to edge sharpness is spot on. I do like that there is some subtle variation in the BG green that gives it a touch more energy IMO. Your crop works very well for the reason you cited. Nicely done. >=))>
