Banana Rama

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took a trip to the Mercer Arboretum earlier this week and was pleased to see that a lot of the tropicals had recovered from the bad freezes we’ve had the past few winters. This banana was a bit off the path but I liked how it was framed by the leaves. All comments welcome. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Thought about cropping this tighter but thought the leaves were adding interest without taking away from the subject.

The leaves work for me, Bill. I don’t think it would look as nice cropped tighter, particularly with the long central bloom bud.

Fascinating flower! Amazing they survived any frost at all. The leaves make a very pleasant BG but is something strange going on just to the right of the flower – or just an optical illusion? The yellow-greens on the left are very pretty but compete a bit with the flower, which deserves all our attention. So that’s where bananas come from! Who knew??

Bill this one caught my eye right away due to the vibrant contrast between the lush green leaves and the striking pink and yellow hues of the banana flower. The colors work beautifully together to create a natural, vivid scene that feels almost tropical.

The framing of the flower with the surrounding leaves is effective, giving a sense of depth and context without overwhelming the subject. The choice to keep the leaves in the composition was wise; they add a pleasant balance and enhance the overall visual appeal. Nice Bill!

Really sweet.! IMO, the framing is perfect.
The bright yellow-green leaf on the left seems just a bit bright to me , and pulls my eye away from this beautiful bud
