Description

This is a portrait of a chicken I had named Beep Beep. x

Specific Feedback

I’m interested on feedback around this portrait which I was thinking of trying to do a print. It’s meant to be more on the artistic size not documentary. I was looking for a subtle wasted out look drawing all attention on the subject using warm colors from the light and cool colors in the background. I did a subtle contrast in the background where it’s warmer on the left size and cooler on the right. also composition is important to me.

On my screen, and I suspect on a print, the bottom of the image, while the detail is there, is very difficult to see. this gives the impression of a lot of empty space. You could solve it either by a crop from the bottom and left or by bringing up the bottom just enough to make those lovely textures in that area a little more visible. I think you could do it without losing the dark look down there if you’re judicious in how much you adjust it. A very nice image.

Nice portrait Brett. Fine sharpness and I like the use of light coming across the bird. I agree with Dennis’ suggestions above.

I’ve found our daughter’s designer chickens are very difficult to persuade to pose, so kudos on getting a good one! I agree with @Dennis_Plank and @Allen_Sparks about a crop from the bottom. I like what you did for a background but there is a cutout look to the bird – it should be easy to feather the edge subtly.
