Blending In

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

During my routine garden patrol I spotted this damselfly hovering around our cactus. It finally landed and allowed me to get in reasonably close.

Specific Feedback

I would have preferred for its tail to not merge with one of the cactus spines but in order to manage the plane of focus I had to settle for this placement.

Wonderful!! And excellent to get the whole thing in focus!! It should be well camouflaged in your cactus garden. If you were into microsurgery you could remove that bit of cactus next to the abdomen, but excellent as presented.

This works well for me, Bill. Beautiful detail and the cactus spines make for some really interesting environment.

Great DOF for this one Bill. The DF is tack sharp, some of the cactus spines have really nice detail, and the focus gently fades to the back. I love all of the angles and lines and curves throughout this as well.

Bill, this works for me too. I don’t even know if I would have seen him, he blends in so well and they are pretty small, so good eye. We have to take what nature offers us sometimes and I think you did a fine job with this capture.

Bill, this looks good. The damsel blends in both colorwise and shapewise. A great place to “hide” for this female (possibly immature). Looks like a Blue-fronted Dancer. They like to hang out near or on the ground and I’ve been finding most of them to be hard to approach.
