The B&W is a good choice here, lot of good structure and texture in this image to work with, as well as luminicity range, it’s not that often you get all three to work with. I like the composition too, it’s an eye catching location. For my taste the image has too much overall contrast. Regarding the sky, I find that if you push open sky all the way to black it conveys a bright hot day and that needs the clouds to be quite bright, close to the white end of things to feel natural. I think more range in the greyscale on the beach and the trees might improve the image. But taking the water all the way to black works well, I think. All of this is pretty subjective, of course.

The simplicity and the tone works great. Black and White really makes this image work for me. I can feel depth !!!
