'Bout To Pop

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is one of the first agapanthus buds to crack open. I like to follow these as they open fully and the flowers spread out. These are hardy fellows and manage to survive the winter freezes every year. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Intentionally positioned the pentas in the BG for the red accents. Nice addition or a distraction?

Wonderful subject with great light, composition and detail, and I love the splashes of red! One minor idea would be to add a soft darker gradient at the bottom to balance the top, which feels just right to me.

Several years ago I was swiping some of these from a park near a friend’s house and shooting them indoors as they opened. Should check it out next time I’m over there, which will be soon as her garden is getting good now.

Beautiful job on this, Bill. I’m unsure about the red background, but I think I’d like to see it without that as it feels a bit out of place to me with the white buds. Maybe mute that red to match the other red splashes a bit more closely?

What a beauty you found here. There is such mysterious organization in nature. I kind of like the bright reds throughout - they focus the attention and define the setting for me. That this isn’t a static specimen, but part of a larger whole. What an elegant composition as well. Top notch.

Beautiful! Gives me some ideas for our amaryllis that is coming out..
The red flowers in the BG set the agapanthus off perfectly, and the BG is sweet.
Nice work, as usual!

Bill,

This one caught my eye due to the red border of where the buds arise from the stem. Lighting is perfect for this type of image and I like this one as presented. You could try Diane’s gradient to see how it would look. Otherwise, a fine shot indeed!..Jim

Beautiful image. I love the lighting and the composition. The slight diagonal is perfect and really emphasizes the white petals popping out. Excellent work!

Super composition and I like the red splash directly behind the white. I’d remove the small white spot above the flowers. I like the BG reds in UL too. Good shot, Bill.
