Description
Brittlebush is a very common shrub in the Sonoran Desert. It has attractive, grayish leaves. Its primary claim to fame is that it blooms off and on throughout the year. It blooms when nothing else does. I was hiking in the mountain preserve a few days back, saw these and liked this composition.

Hi Don,
It’s so rare to see flower photographs in black and white, but I gotta say, this is just lovely. I love the four blossoms, their arrangement, their simple shape. That and the tonality in the entire image gives it a depth, freshness, and natural quality that are really appealing.
I’m not familiar with the plant (or the Sonoran desert, but hopefully I’ll get there). This looks a lot like tickseed, which is often a yellowish-orange. These flowers look like they are white, very white, and whether or not they are, I really love the look.
The arrangement of the flowers makes a lovely composition, and the B/W has very pleasing tonalities with lovely whites. The leaves make a lovely BG without appearing too flat or subdued. I think repairing the bug bites at the top would help keep the eye in the frame. There is a subtle vignette there already.
Ooh this is nice - the way each flower is showing a slightly different aspect and the curve of them is really pleasing. The leaves look lush even though they are not in color - excellent. Good sharpness where it counts. The nibbled leaves don’t bother me, but clean them up if you have a mind. Otherwise they just show how plants are some of the foundations of the food chain.
