Bumblebee in Solidago

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

My wife noticed that there were lots of bumblebees in the three large clumps of Solidago Canadensis in the front yard, so I took some time to try to photograph them. There were plenty of bees to act as subjects, though getting them to pose was another matter. We have three species of Solidago in the area, one that’s quite early and only 8-10 inches tall, one in the middle that’s individual stems and 12-16 inches tall, and this monster that forms clumps of many stems and is 3-4 feet tall with bloom heads 5 or 6 inches in diameter and 8-10 inches long.

Specific Feedback

Does the composition work? Does it convey something of the masses of bloom?

Really nice image here Dennis. Love seeing the plentiful blooms in the front with the supporting cast of blooms in the back. Does gives a sense of the bloom masses. Nice view of this bee hard at work and well placed in the frame. Well done.

Excellent shot of this bee and the flowers he is on. Nice details in him and I like how the pollen on the bee coordinates nicely with the color of the flowers.

Dennis: Mission accomplished on portraying the abundance of blooms. Love the detail on the bee and your DOF management especially. Really well done. >=))>
