Cape Byron Lighthouse

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This shot taken hand held about an hour after sunrise. I didn’t have high hopes shooting into the rising sun but it seems to have worked out. A LOT of PP in ACR/PS fixing the distortion of the lighthouse.

Specific Feedback

General C&C wanted but also comment on what I see as a bit of a (unintended) surreal/painted feel to the edited image.

Technical Details

Having seen the Cape Byron lightouse, I would say this is a wonderful capture. You’ve done well shooting into the sun. Sometimes a “reverse” sunset can work at this location if you are able to go back. Half hour before sunrise would also work.

I really like the shadow and light play on the buildings. The people have a painted sort of feel in the image, but overall not.

I’m not seeing the surreal aspect, but I really like the image. How many sunflares did you have to remove? Other than a little banding/ artifacts in the sky, probably from web compression, no critiques.

Hi Mark,
This turned out really well for shooting into the sun. I like the interplay of light and shadow on the lighthouse and buildings. I also like the inclusion of the people as they add a nice sense of scale to the image. I am not really noticing the surreal/painted feel to the image. Very nicely done; I have no suggestions.
