Catskill Mountain Snowy Landscape

Image(s)

Image Description

I always wanted to photograph snow in the mountains, especially the drama of light and dark on a seemingly quiet and mysterious landscape. High in the Northern Catskills is just where I found it. I was hoping, but really not sure I would find such a scene, but when I saw how the light was ever changing over this landscape, from lighting areas to creating shadow, I was stirred. A motion was created that had the scene come alive. The freezing cold of February was worth it.

Harvey: Great to have you posting again and with such a lovely image. One can almost hear the silence of the scene. Really nice play of light and the sky is just the right complement. Nicely done. >=))>

Thank you Bill for your perception of the silence. You are right. Glad to be back.

A lovely scene, but the blown whites in the sky are a distraction. It would be worth processing a second image for a better sky (if it can be salvaged) and layering the two. Or else resorting to cloning. Some cropping from the top and right could also help.

I agree with @Diane_Miller regarding the hot spots in the sky. Yes, you could crop from the right to eliminate that blob of white and also perhaps clone in some clouds in the white streak after adjusting the contrast in the clouds just a bit.

The rest of the scene is very nice and once the sky is tweaked, this image will be much nicer.
