Child of Botswana

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I love the African children. These eyes absolutely captivated me.
We always stop at the first place off the plane and grab a bunch of small toys, crayons, coloring books, pencils, sharpeners, etc to give to the kids we come across. Not a toy in sight for this little one.

Specific Feedback

I’m curious whether people prefer the color or the BW version. Is this a strong enough image for B&W ?

I rarely think of B&W, so thanks to Richard Sandor for reminding me with his exceptional EP

Hi Sandy. Given the wonderful palette in the color version, I think I’d stick with it for this one, though the expression on the youngster and the textures in the background are enough to carry the B&W version nicely.

Sandy: I prefer the color version to the BW. The tones in the color version are muted which converts to a lower contrast BW image. But that’s just my personal preference.

Lovely capture, although sad. I hope some toys got handed out here – what a nice idea! Both are lovely but I prefer the color version – the analogous colors just fit together so well. Congratulations on the EP – very well deserved!

Thank you for the EP - I won’t forget this sweet little girl.
