Image Description

We live in a prairie ecosystem where Douglas Firs are considered invasive. Over the years, we’ve girdled and topped a number of firs to create wildlife habitat. This one came down several years ago and I was out looking for macro subjects this morning and found this little scene.

Are the smaller damaged mushrooms a problem?

This is a real nice image Dennis. I don’t find the smaller mushrooms a problem as they are just part of the scene and not distracting at all. Do you know what kind of mushrooms these are? Maybe just remove the little stems at the base of the one big mushroom on the left, but that’s it.

Not a clue what they are, @Ted_Forman Thanks for the input. I’ll have to take a look at the one on the left.

Dennis,

This is a nice find. I think I have a similar image where the mushrooms were growing from some upside down place but have turned and grew upwards. And I think the species is Mycena Urania. (See Here)

Thanks, Youssef. I looked at the reference site and I think it’s probably closer to Mycena laevigata due to the stem that’s the same color as the cap and the fact that it grows on decaying conifers. However, I’m pretty much ignorant when it comes to fungi identification.

Dennis,

Yes you are probably correct. I was just going by the visuals. And the species I pointed out grows in Europe.

Dennis, this is an excellent collection of mushrooms where the damaged ones fit the scene and the story. (Many mushrooms don’t stay perfect for more than a few days…) The bits of green moss scattered around are good as well. I see two small “bugs” who are probably part of the decay process.

WOW, I sure missed this one, Dennis. A wonderful scene. The mushrooms reminded me of a collection of umbrellas the world famous artist Cristo had. As I recall he placed a set near Gorman California years ago along the Grapevine pass…CRISTO https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Umbrellas_(Christo_and_Jeanne-Claude)

Congrats on the EP too… :+1:

Thanks @Paul_Breitkreuz @Ted_Forman @Mark_Seaver @Youssef_Ismail for your kind comments and Mark for the EP.

I missed this one too! I’m glad I got to see it now because I think it’s wonderful! They are very nicely arranged and the damaged ones make the whole story. And it’s fantastic that they are growing out from under the piece of wood and then growing up! No nits with any aspect! And congratulations on the EP – well-deserved!

Dennis: 100% ditto of @Diane_Miller. A terrific find and an exceptionally good capture.>=))>
