Description
A couple years ago I pruned this almost to the ground. Turns out it is the type of clematis that should only be lightly pruned. No blooms last year but great this year.
Specific Feedback
Is it too tight top and bottom? Are the Oregon grape leaves on right side too bright? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Lovely image, Jim with the fairly bright flowers against that dark background, yet with plenty of detail in the background. The bottom might be just a bit tight, but it kind of faces into the screen since I’m set for dark mode viewing. Amazing to be able to line up six blossoms and get them all in focus at f/8. Are these the largish blossoms about 3 inches in diameter?
Oh no, the overprune catastrophe. Glad they’re coming back. I like the arrangement of the flowers very much and they stand out well against their darker foliage. I could see a 1:1 square crop here as I think the leaves on the right call for more attention than they need. They remind me of native roses in their simplicity and pink/yellow presentation. Happy they came back for you!
Gorgeous! The arrangement of the flowers is lovely and the color and details are beautiful. The BG doesn’t bother me as it is nicely subdued but I think the square crop is a good idea.
Is this a vigorous evergreen climber? We have a white armandii that needs a major pruning. I hate to do it as it is gorgeously green all year but it is threatening to take over the house.
Thank you. It is not evergreen but fairly vigorous. If I do not prune it, it can get out of control in a couple years. I looked up white armandii prune or not. Says it is in pruning group one. I found that information at: https://the3growbags.com/great-plants-this-month/clematis/armandii.
Jim: A new clematis for me so this is a treat. Ours have six or eight petals. I think a square crop would work well, especially since the flowers have only four petals. I also think you could increase the brightness of the flowers just a touch. All in all, well seen and captured. >=))>
