Description

Last weekend I got about sixty insect bites venturing into this jungle of prairie flowers. What an itch! Yikes. So, when I saw the first cup flower bloom this morning, I decided to capture it from inside our living room. . I was happy to see the pollinator doing its work - a small contribution to the planet and nature.

Specific Feedback

Overall response to the composition and processing and any other comments.

Technical Details

I made this image without going outside, using my Nikon 200-500 mm lens and then upscaling the image 2x to create the crop. Processed with LR Classic and TK9 plugin for photoshop. Used Topaz Photo Ai for upscaling. Nikon D500.

Oh man sorry about the bugs. On a walk to the mailbox (1 mile round trip) I had to fight them off, so I feel your pain. The flower is lovely and I like the framing and sharpness. There seems to be a bee in the center which is a nice bonus. I wonder if a bit of a crop below would be beneficial since the bright leaf is a bit of a distraction from the flower itself.

Most of my cup plants are over 10 feet tall and are a dominant plant in the landscape. To improve the comp crop more from the bottom to remove some of the brighter leaves. Usually there’s more separation between the lower leaves and flower so its just a vase of finding the right plant for the photo-shoot. Well done…Jim

Larry: Good effort here and I feel your pain regarding the bugs. A tighter crop would work for me as suggested by @Kris_Smith and I wish the bee was more obvious. At this size it looks like a puzzling blob instead of a nice complementary element. Still a fine portrait and good on you taking advantage of what you had available. >=))>

Thanks, Kris. I dealt with the bright leaf by burning it with a multiply brush in TK9. I appreciate your pointing out that it was too bright.

Jim and @Bill_Fach , I fixed the brightness issue with the bottom leaf. I decided not to keep the composition as is in this image and to make another with Bill’s suggested crop. Thanks.
