Clinch River Heron

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was able to get out for a walk near Norris Dam in Tennessee. The weather was hit or miss with rain, wind, sun, and then calm. I did not see much at all except for this GBH. I had to get down on one knee, shoot under branches, and get a few shots before it flew.

Specific Feedback

Anything to improve. Is the photo okay with the log or should I remove some of it. I like the reflection in the water.

Technical Details

Canon 6dmkii with Sigma 150-600 hand held kneeling on one knee.
F6.3
ISO 3200
1/1000 shutter speed
388mm focal length.

Very nice!!! I wouldn’t change anything about the bird, perch or water. The BG is lovely but that is a double-edged sword, as it competes with the bird a bit. Taming the brightest greens would be interesting to try.

Very nice, Brian. I like the setting a lot and the log works just fine. If you cropped this, I could see a tad more room on the right, particularly if it’s as nice as the rest. I could see taming that cluster of bright green leaves behind the head a tad as @Diane_Miller mentioned.

Lovely image of a great bird! I like the reflection too! @Dennis_Plank and @Diane_Miller have mentioned the greens. They are quite lovely, but I think a little taming of the greens would be nice and perhaps put more attention on the bird.

Thank you Diane

Thanks Dennis. Hopefully, I can get back out soon.

Thank you Glenys.

Thank you Sandy
