Hi Ben,
Happy feeling indeed; this is delightful! I like the spacing of the trees across the frame and you handled what appears to be some tough lighting conditions beautifully. The shadows of the tree trunks make for another nice element here and direct the eye very nicely into the image. This is a very inviting scene as the light seems to beckon the viewer. Beautifully done.
I love the mood in a cool forest when the sun spills through the trees and adds a touch of warmth.
I find the contrast of the left 2/3rds vs. right to be interesting. the left has an open and inviting feel, while the right is more closed and forbidding.
I like the contrasts of l ight and shadow on the forest floor, Ben. When this happens, I would expose for the highlights, hence making the entire photo darker, so the colours of the forest floor are deeper. Then in post processing I would pull up the dark parts some, to bring back some details in the leaves. The setting is lovely, sunshine in the woods is heavely.
