Image Description

The cascade into my pond creates loads of bubbles of all sizes. Under certain circumstances, bubbles smaller than about 1 cm diameter show strong colors, due to what’s called thin film interference. (While in this case, it’s due to the thickness of the water, it is the same phenomena that creates colors when there’s oil (or other surfactants) floating on water.) These smaller bubbles retain their nicely circular shape, especially when there’s only one main bubble. The colors seen in a bubble depend on the thickness of the water film.

While I would like to get the bubble collection sharp edge-to-edge, these are moving fairly quickly and I’m working very close, so that wish may be a dream…

Your pond is a great provider of wonderful opportunities for unique images. Fortunately for us, you are able to capture and share them with us. I really like these. Is that Bigfoot in the reflected forest?

Mark, your ponds have an unending supply of photographic opportunities. Although both work as being totally unique my preference is for the first image and it’s overall clarity. The trees really add a neat dimension to the images… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
Both images have a bit of that Time Tunnel or Stargate look to them…
:+1: for Jim’s Bigfoot comment.

Mark, I really like these a lot. I hope you don’t mind, I down loaded them and cropped them to see the forest and bigfoot inside the bubble. I actually like the second one more with all the colors and surrounding tiny bubbles. Are you sure that’s not an eye looking back at you?
THANKS

The bubbles with the reflections and interference are unique and interesting to look at and focus on the large bubble is sharp. Good eye.

When I first saw these images I was thinking up close to a lizard’s eye!

Both images are wonderful and the reflections are really intriguing. I like the crops posted.

@Jim_Gavin, @Paul_Breitkreuz, I’ve been called a lot of names in my life…however this is the first time Bigfoot appeared… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: The spherical mirror effect and the darkness around the rim do make my feet look huge!

Similar to @glennie I thought at first a frog’s eye. I prefer the second one as I’m a sucker for colors, but they’re both excellent

I was thinking some kind of slimy eyeball, too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen (or at least noticed) bubbles this cool, with a big one surrounded by such a lovely halo of small ones. And the OOF reflections surrounding the ring of small bubbles is a very cool feature. So is the self-portrait! Wonderful captures!!
