Description

Eurasian Black Vulture, Spain Photo Tour
These are also known as monk vultures.
These things are huge and seem very ominous.
I think I captured that spirit of forboding here.

Specific Feedback

Does this convey ominous and threatening ?

Nah, Sandy, they’re big softies! Actually, we get a lot of this species in the winter in Korea, as they fly in from Mongolia to feed on bits of chicken when the fields are manured. Nyum. I’ve never seen them on green grass, nor with such a bluish bill, which make for a striking shot. Our grass is brown in winter and we only get the juveniles. You caught a fine pose, with leg up and billowing ruff. Maybe add a bit of fill at the bottom?

HI Sandy, nice mood you captured here and the forward foot and beak really show the power of the bird.

Very nice capture Sandy. Nice pose of this beautiful bird. Definitely ominous. Extremadura or another region of Spain?
Monk vultures are less common in Spain than griffon vultures or Egyptian vultures. Great encounter. I visited Extremadura a few times, mainly in spring, and I saw monk vultures but not very often.

With his foot raised up and fluffed up neck feathers, he looks like he is looking right at you and coming in maybe too close. Intimidating and ominous. Nice pose.
There was a flock of Turkey Vultures living in the woods across the street for a long time. They were chased off by smaller Black Vultures that live there now. I’ve taken lots of images of them but haven’t been lucky enough to get a pose like this one.
THANKS

This is really cool, Sandy. You should have saved this one for Halloween as it definitely has a spooky look.

You definitely caught an ominous mood-that was my first thought in seeing this image, before reading your comments. Has something of a mythological feel to it. The raised foot adds to the feeling that he’s coming at you with evil intent.

Hi Sandy
or the Angle of death, your scaring me. Great photograph.
