Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A couple folks commented on perhaps seeing a landscape view of Shore Acres after my first post from here. Being so far away I ended up taking a lot of shots trying to capture the critical moment of the big waves. From where I was I could not anticipate when I would get a big crash so when a breaker began I just set the shutter on high speed and let 'er rip. The portrait shot captured the biggest wave of the evening but this one was pretty close. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Taken from the same location as the first shot but with a wider lens. I like both and am hard pressed to choose. I might print both.

Yes Bill, it’s a beautiful photo also in horizontal. I like very much the larger view of the cliff and the better vision of the angry sea. I can’t help your choice because I love also the vertical image.

I know this game well at Shore Acres. It amazes me how hard it is to predict which ones will be duds and which ones huge. I find I can guesstimate, but that I’m wrong a lot of the time. It’s always frustrating to think “That wave won’t do much,” only to have it be a monster that I only photograph the end of.

I love this angle at Shore Acres. The rangers have scolded me when I’ve been too close to the edge, but the way the little outcrops stack up in the distance is very attractive to me. Your fog/mist sets them off nicely here. I liked it better before they built the observation hut; but on the other hand I have dodged in there when the rain and wind were horrific, so I shouldn’t complain too much.
