This stand of aspen stood out nicely with high clouds overhead with a storm moving in. I experimented with cropping off the right side to balance the aspen area, but like the inclusion of the distant peaks.

Sure looks like fall in the Northern Rockies,Harley. At least this fall, where we had lots of storms and clouds and very few bluebird skies. I think this works very well as presented, with it’ emphasis on the sky and the touch of rain falling on the left. The colorful aspens and grasses make a nice contrast with the sky. Yes, you could crop this to square on the right, but that’s an image telling a different story, since it leaves out the rain and the long distance view. Depending on what you want to emphasize, a bit of midtone burning in the clouds on the left half would add some drama.
Wonderful open landscape here Harley with some drama taking place in the sky too. I think your idea not to crop was a good choice, I like seeing the depth on the right there. I could see the mid-tone burning Mark mentions as a viable option for at least an additional look there. Regardless, a solid autumn scene overall…
Yeah, definitely no crop here. I think all the elements are proportioned just right, including the amount of yellow grasses of the prairie/meadow. The aspens seems to provide just enough autumn color interest, but it’s the sky/cloud drama, the “distant rain” as well as the entire length of the mountain range that are the main subject for me. All put together nicely.
I suppose you could experiment with some contrast/adjustments in the clouds for effect, but this works quite well as presented.

Definitely don’t crop all that wonderful drama, Harley. All of the elements in the image seem to be in just the right place for my tastes. I could see toning down that section of clouds in the center left just a bit, but that is just subjective as this is wonderful as is.
Really nice, Harley. Great lighting and I think the framing works well as presented. As others have suggested, I would bring down the brightness in the clouds in the upper left. The layer of aspens is the primary focal point imo, and the bright clouds tend to pull my eye up.
Very dramatic sky Harley, and IMO the cropping/composition is perfect as presented. As others have suggested, some mid-tone contrast / burning of the left part of the sky would balance the tonality a little better. If you wanted to create some contrast in the sky overall, I might consider cooling the darker areas of the clouds, especially on the right. The warmth looks good in the land and the highlights in the sky, but a slight cooling of the darker grey clouds on the right would also create some color contrast.
Nicely done. Do not crop. All of the pieces fit together really well. I agree with Dave’s comment regarding bringing down the brightness in the clouds on the left. However, don’t over do it-you don’t want to lose the luminosity there.
Lots of great drama. Good job!

I like this image of yours Harley. The overall warmth is appealing, even in the sky. I like the sky as is but would go in a different direction than suggested. I would lift some of the darkness of the clouds on the right rather than darkening the bright clouds. No cropping for me unless you want to make it panoramic, but that’s taking the image in a different direction.
The right side belongs there, in my view, not just because of the great stormy sky, but also to give some “breathing space” to the aspen stands. I would definitely not crop it !
