Diving tern

Each year, we are very fortunate to have Caspian terns visit our neighborhood and fish in the inlet. I took these yesterday. The first time I’ve been out with my camera in quite some time.

These are fairly large crops because the terns are typically about 100 yards or more away from where I sit and take pictures. I can’t get any closer because of the water. The terns rarely get any closer. The inlet is about 200 yards wide at the current tide level. And I can’t walk on the on the tide flats because I’m too heavy and I would sink in the mud.
This is basically a diving sequence. We also get occasional osprey that also dive for fish.

Glad you got this all worked out, David. I like the series, though I think I’d crop the last image down quite a bit (Maybe like the 4th image) to emphasize the splash more.

Hi David, even though the views are mostly wide, this sequence shows the diving behavior well and gives a sense of the expansiveness of the site. Nice sharpness on the diving bird.
