Yes, a very nice look at this Downey woodpecker. I like the detail and the pose. Always nice to get a little wood flying. I have a lot of of these in my neighborhood along with some larger versions of the Downey., The hairy woodpecker. I guess there’s also a three toed woodpecker which is quite similar but I’m not sure if it’s range.

Gorgeous shot of the Downy doing its thing, Allen. The combination of the hole and the hip really tells a fine story.

Allen,

Great capture and “action” shot - although the action amounts to the little chunk of wood - but I’m guessing you’re not complaining! I wouldn’t. This is a wonderful image.

My only suggestion, and a minor one at that, would be a skosh more room below the tail. Yeah, I know there is already room and it’s not breaching… but it’s my only thought and suggestion.

Allen - really great image of this fellow. Tack-sharp detail is present throughout, and the profile pose is perfect, with cool green BG and flying wood!
The tiniest nit - maybe a little more room at the bottom would be good, if you’re ok with breaking traditional aspects.
Excellent!
