Dragonfly Nymph Exoskeleton

I saw this huge dragonfly nymph exoskeleton at my neighborhood lake today. Not a very pretty shot but I find it interesting - wish I could have been there when the big guy emerged.

Canon 7D2, 300 f4L IS, 1.4x TC II
ISO 400, f16, 1/200s, Manual exposure, hand held, used my pop up flash

Any comments appreciated.

Wow, what a cool find, Allen. I guess I didn’t even know that they did this. Learning so much about nature just by taking an interest through photography.

Allen, the details look very good here. It looks like there are a few cobwebs below and behind the exoskeleton, which suggests that it’s been there at least 24 hours. That long “tail” is a novelty based on my limited experience. A neat find, nicely documented.

Very cool, Allen. It’s so neat to find a “shed” like this that’s in such perfect condition. I’m always amazed how they can extract the most delicate features from the old casing without breaking them off.
