Description

Shed exoskeleton of 1/3 inch grasshopper (correction - dragonfly - thanks, Ed)
It always amazes me that these little things can wriggle out of the old exoskeleton and leave them mostly intact, when they shed

Very cool, Sandy. I like the shed exoskeleton on what looks like an old seed head. They fit nicely together.

Great find Sandy. It is amazingly intact. Great documentation work. I really like the grass seed head it is on too. Nice BG to provide the setting. I think this is probably a dragonfly exoskeleton (https://thedragonflywoman.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/emergence-1.jpg). Some crickets will actually eat their shed skins to help build their new skins.

Cool find! How on earth did it manage to wiggle out without damaging the seedhead?

Hi Ed - looks as if you`re right on the ID - thanks for the correction!

A wonderful find, Sandy. The background for this photo image was perfect as the details in the subject came out very well. Photography is amazing showing things not seen before.

Sandy: Just a superbly crafted image! I love the subject, the perch and the BG. They all fit together perfectly. Most excellent. >=))>

Sandy, this event is fun to watch and very difficult to find an insect at this moment in its life cycle. Thumbs up on a great find and presentation of this event!

Thanks, Bill and Shirley, for the EP!
This was a fun and different catch -
