I would like help on the ID of this duck. This was shot at Homer, AK during the month of July.
Personally, I’m not sure. I took a photo of the duck and ran it through the Merlin App on my phone and Merlin says it’s a Northern Pintail. Presumably female.
She has the appearance of a Pintail, especially the head. I wonder if she is some sort of hybrid. The feather patterns don’t seem to fit any hen Pintail I’ve seen. What caught my attention, other than the wonderful grass, was an almost plastic appearance of her body.
