Hi Everyone, I took this shot a week or so ago of early spring bleeding heart shoots. I think they look so cool and so similar to sea anemones! There was a light mist so I caught a raindrop on it. I took a series of both stacked photos and individual shots. This is just one photo and not focus stacked.
Specific Feedback
I am looking for general feedback as well as, do you find it interesting? I am just beginning to take more macro photos and I have a hard time differentiating a “snapshot” from a more interesting, thoughtful photo.

Hi, Jay, and welcome to NPN. This does look like a sea anemone, very well spotted. I think you could have gone for a higher f number to get more of the interesting parts in focus, in addition to the drop (with your self-portrait?). I would also suggest removing the small bits showing in corners and along the right side, as they are a bit too eye-catching. Do you have the 60mm macro lens? I love it - I can even get butterfly shots with it quite often without spooking the subjects. Anyway, looking forward to more of your work here!
Welcome to NPN, Jay. @Mike_Friel pretty much said what I was going to say. There is a little whit tip poking into the left bottom of the frame and just a smudge on the left side toward the bottom that I’d also remove. To me, the subject feels a bit tilted so if you cropped this, you could rotate it a bit clockwise at the same time and add canvas, if that’s within your ethics, though you’d have to go into PS for that step.
This is a great find and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of your work and getting your insights on other folks efforts.

Jay: Welcome to NPN and thanks for a good first post. At heart I’m a single capture guy and like your selective focus choices making the drop the primary subject. Hi Bill, thanks a lot! I didn’t realize how distracting those other bits were until they were removed. It looks much cleaner now and your eye is drawn towards the water droplet and not the other busy pieces.
