Description

One of the last days hanging out at the Hawthorn waiting for Waxwings and Robins, I shot this. Or maybe my subconscious did. I’m honestly not sure. I remember being bored and messing around with OOF shots, but I only did two – maybe the birds showed up and I got back to business. And the other one doesn’t look anything like this one. I’ve always liked to use a long lens defocused to look for interesting shapes. Anyhow, I decided it was worth putting out in public.

I like this, Diane. I often take oof images of the flower beds when I’m waiting for birds to show up. Given your title, you might want to go full astro and really jack up the saturation and maybe even boost the contrast. It could get really interesting, especially if you can make the grays go totally black.

I like it. It’s something I’ve thought about doing, but never have pulled off. It’s suggestive of soft spring leaves when they’re very new and some are reddish and pinkish. Good use of your time when the birds are uncooperative.

This is very attractive. I second Dennis’s suggestion of making a really funky version too.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Kris_Smith and @Mike_Friel! I tried some tonal pushing and preferred these original soft tones, but – hmmmmm… Maybe I’ll do one of @Bonnie_Lampley’s blends with a real galaxy. We’ll have some clear darkish nights coming up and I have a shooting list to get to so I may go semi-dark here for a while.
