What a great image you captured here Ben! What works for me is the mood you captured with just the right amount of color/saturation. The diagonal line the trees form from right foreground to the left background just walk your eye into the mystery forest! The little tree is just shouting out “I belong here!” Well done!!!
It took me a moment to find the little tree, the star of the image, but once I did I fixated on it. What a neat composition that my eye was allowed to explore and then BAM, there’s the subject. There is a narrow trunk in the lower left side that leans out of the frame. It’s minor, but I think I would probably clone that out. I wouldn’t want to crop as even a minor crop would upset the delicate balance of the image. Lovely work!
Hi Ben,
The light fog really helps set the peaceful vibe of this woodland scene. I am enjoying the way that you spaced out the trees and let the viewer discover that the star of the show is the young sapling in the middle of the frame. I only have a couple minor suggestions for this lovely image. I would crop out the pathway along the bottom edge of the frame as well as cloning out the small tree that @Bret_Edge already mentioned. It goes without saying that I love the haiku. This is wonderful!
Wow, that fog really sets the mood here; and further it allows that little tree in transition to really stand out. This just tells a great seasonal transition story; clearly winter with all the bare trees, yet this one little guy still clinging to autumn. And I think “Elegant” is very fitting.
The small trunk leaning out of the frame on the left isn’t an image killer for me, but is probably something I would crop/clone if it were mine. I also don’t mind the path at the bottom - it implies also to be the same path that looks like it’s going thru the trees on the left, leading the eye in to the frame.
I like that the bigger trunk in the front right is pretty sharp - otherwise, it might be more of a distraction. Minor wish would be more room on the right of that tree; but I suspect maybe something undesired outside the frame that we don’t see.
A lovely image; very quiet, contemplative and yes, a certain elegance to this. Beautifully captured.

It isn’t a trunk in the lower left side, but wet mud in the walking path . In my rework I changed the color of that mud a bit and played a little with the leaves .So it is better to see that it’s not a tree trunk. I also removed that small tree on the left. I let the path at the bottom stay.To me it works as framing together with the left and right side of the image. And yes at the right side should have been a little more space, but there wasn’t any. Thank you all so much for your comments and observations !! Ben
Ben, All has been said but I wanted to let you know that this is a really beautiful image and you couldn’t have used a more prophetic word for your title. Elegance!!! Superb. As always, I just love your haiku!
