Eurasian lynx

Image(s)

Image Description

An image from a few years ago, the chances to see wildlife in cold circumstances are very limited for me, unfortunately.
We had waited for several hours in very cold weather, but finally the lynx showed up and posed. Very relaxed and for several minutes. We knew it was there, but that doesn’t mean that you are going to actually see something. But we were rewarded.

Feedback Requests

I cleaned up a few tiny branches that disturbed the center of the image, but left others untouched. For me that is fine, but maybe you find them distracting? How about the SS? I tried to select a SS to keep some motion in the snow flakes, but not too long to avoid motion blur of the main subject. Although the camera was on a tripod, it was windy and tricky.
Any other feedback is welcome.

Pertinent Technical Details

Pentax K3 Mk. III, Sigma 4/100-300mm with TC2 @600mm, tripod, f/12.6, 1/125s, ISO3200.
Cropped to about 70% of the original image.
DxO PL6, some twigs that were sticking out of the snow were removed.

Han, this is a really nice capture of the lynx. I love the falling snow, and the snow on his back.
I could see cleaning up a few more errant branches along the bottom, and brightening those great eyes!
A fine image!

Love the capture. I could see cloning out more branches. If I ever gat a shot of a lynx (they’re not around here), I hope it’s as fine as this.

What a beautiful cat. It looks so comfortable in its environment. Hard to imagine, but there it is - what I love about photos that show the environment the animal is living in…
Since you’re ok with removing distractions, I would also remove the rest of the branches on the bottom. The others above don’t interfere. You did a nice job with white balance & exposure, which can be tricky in snowy backgrounds. I like the idea presented above to brighten up those lovely eyes too. What a great experience you had there!

Han, this is a fine look at an animal that’s hard to find and photograph. The environment feels right and you caught the falling snow very well.

Han: I pretty much have zero opportunity for winter wildlife so I’m enjoying observing the WC this week. This image immediately caught my eye because I’m a cat lover in general and I know enough about this species to know that this was a very special encounter for you. My only suggestion would be to crop a bit tighter. For me the BG rock takes up a touch more room in the frame than it should but I do like that it sets off the falling snow. Wonderful subject superbly captured. >=))>

Thank you @SandyR-B , @Bill_Fach , @Mark_Seaver , @Dave_Douglass and @Connie_McClaran for your comments!
I’ll give the eyes some extra attention and I like your crop, @Bill_Fach .

Bill’s crop suggestion works great.
Now, please highlight those marvelous eyes!

@SandyR-B The result. The lynx wouldn’t recognize itself in the mirror
