Face Painting

In the tribal areas of southern Ethiopia, photography is pay for play. Kids expect to receive 5 Birr per photo (about 20 cents US) and adults expect 10 Birr. Facial painting is done in order to attract more photographers. Here’s a photo taken when one youngster was having her face painted. I converted this to BW since it was taken near Noon in harsh light. I framed it tight to eliminate a distracting background.
Both were paid the requisite amount.

Fine cultural image, very effective in B&W too. I am finding the hand a bit dominant, but not much you could do about that. The model rates sure are reasonable!

Richard, Great story and ditto to Harley’s comments. Very effective.

B&W is the perfect choice. I like the way she is looking at the camera.
