About This Image

Lots of these at a campground we stayed at early this month, so I had to get at least one shot and this female was very accommodating.

Feedback Requested

In general, I like this image, but it doesn’t have the immediate impact that I think it could have. I’d be interested in any suggestions for cropping or processing that might help achieve that. Note that there’s little more room top and bottom.

Nice image Dennis. Fine treatment of the black plumage. Critical sharpness where it needs to be. The impact for me is a nice image of a bird I’ve never seen before and had me guessing as to species. My only grasping thought would be to increase saturation of the background but I’m not confident that would add to impact.

Hi Dennis, Wow, it’s hard to photograph a nearly monotone bird and make it interesting, but you’ve done just that. The detail in the features is great, especially in contrast with the out-of-focus tail and background. Perfect DOF, in my view. My one suggestion would be to crop a little on the left to give more attention to the bird (even though I love the green vegetation in the background)while taking her a bit out of center.

Hi Dennis. I think the stare draws the viewer in and provides impact. Excellent detail and I like the perch and the background.
