The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I got this shot on this overcast morning. I have a confession to make. The original had a blank gray sky background so I selected the subject, reverse the selection and asked for a “foggy forest” generative BG which I blurred some, and darkened a little. Even though it’s a cheat, I DO like it better than a blank gray BG.
Specific Feedback
Does it work for you? Cropping?

I think the background frames the head nicely, Dave. I could see a little crop reducing the left side and increasing the right, if you have any room there…but It’s a nice portrait.
Interesting idea – the posted image is postage-stamp small so it’s hard to tell, but it looks very cutout. Good masking is still sorely lacking, which surprises me as so much of the new stuff seems so sophisticated.
Nice pose from the ferruginous, Dave. I’m not sure why the image is so small-was this a huge crop? The background forest looks cool, but as @Diane_Miller noted, it does look a bit cutout. I don’t think it’s so much because of the masking as that the light and contrast in the hawk is completely different from the foggy forest look.
very nice to be able to get this close. Lots of good detail. The crop is a little tight for my taste but I like it anyway
A good close-up/portrait look at the hawk. For some reason we can’t see a larger view. I like the pose and the lighting looks good. It would be interesting to see the original background, as it might work okay with a close-up like this.
Here’s the original (and it’s the proper size this time… oops)
I think I prefer this version, it looks more natural.
Yeah, sometimes it’s not nice to fool with mother nature, huh
