I was fortunate to get this handsome hawk with a landscape BG as opposed to my usual blue sky BG.

I like the BG on this, and the wing positions with it powering down and bent primaries. Is my cropping about right?

Dave, the angle of view and perspective here is excellent. The BG gives a perfect backdrop to the scene too. It provides a feeling of lower to ground hunting mode… :sunglasses:
Only thought for change is subjective with the cyan cast. Again subjective. No nit just choice of personal taste… :thinking:

A nice look at the hawk in flight. I like the shooting angle, the background, the wing position. All very nice.

Sadly, it isn’t quite sharp.

This is impressive Dave, I also think that the landscape BG adds a lot to the image and the wing positions offer a great perspective of the flying. The crop works for me with the amount of “free space” to the right.

This is an outstanding capture in my opinion!
The BG is awesome, partly because of the color, texture and the amount of blur, and partly because of the angle showing how close to the ground it’s flying. It’s just a wonderful perspective and composition :slight_smile:

While it really is a matter of personal preference, I think @Paul_Breitkreuz has a good point about the cyan color cast on the underside of the wings and body, something closer to white via minor desaturation could be an improvement if that’s appealing to you.
The sharpening that @Keith_Bauer mentioned could be addressed with a sharpening software program if you have one in your toolkit.

Even without those minor suggestions, it really is an awesome capture and a real pleasure to view as is. :slight_smile:

Okay, you guys have inspired me to rework it to reduce the cyan in the wing, and sharpen the subject some more. How’s this looking?

That look s really, really good, Dave!
The color is just right IMHO and the sharpening looks great too!

Very minor tweaks can do wonders sometimes. :slight_smile:

Reworked version is an improvement over the original. The autofocus seemed to have locked on the right wing which produced the head to be slightly softer than the wing. Overall nice pose and controlling the cyan shadows is well done in the reworked version. It is also nice to have a nicely patterned background that goes well with the flying hawk. …Jim
