Inflight Ferruginous

Description

Every year around this time I always tool forward to some ferruginous hawks choosing to hang out near here. Here’s one I caught flying by recently.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Exposure? I like the contrast of the in shadow and sunlit areas. What say you?

Nice look at the hawk, Dave with the bird coming at you and a slight downward head turn. The cropping works; there’s enough room for the bird to fly into.

I think the crop works just fine, Dave. I do kind of wish there’d been some light in the eye, but sometimes there just isn’t. I’d be interested in knowing your processing for this one as there doesn’t seem to be much fine feather detail and at those settings and the apparent sharpness, I would expect to see more.

Gorgeous pose and light! For my taste, I think you could back off the NR just slightly. Looks like there is some tonal detail to bring the eye out a bit.
