Description

I caught this guy taking off on an overcast morning. I always like the look of bent primaries.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Is that enough lead space?

The composition works just fine for me. The eye in the center is another comp guideline that often works. The lighting is excellent. You’re getting some wonderful captures! Although the clean look is intriguing, I wonder about backing off the NR just a tad.

Wonderful wing position and a great head turn, Dave. It does look like the noise reduction removed most of the really fine feather detail. You might want to try backing off on that quite a bit.

I like the composition as posted but feel there is another version with the canvas extended for a bit more breathing room.

I love the pose the bird has given you, especially those wingtips.

The image looks quite painterly because of the NR, and I like the effect.

Nice close-up, Dave, of the hawk in flight. The composition works for me, given the slight head turn. The NR does give it a painterly effect, if that’s what you’re going after.
