Is that bright area on the right a distraction? All comments and suggestions are welcome and thanks for viewing.

Pertinent Technical Details

Canon EOS R50, 18-150 RF lens @ 95mm, ISO 400, f/6.3, 1/200s. In post processing, brought up the shadows and midtones while lowering the highlights quite a bit. Added some dehazing too.

Great ice formations and patterns. They stand out well against the dark background on the top and left. I don’t mind the gold area, personally.

Jim, this collection of ice filaments looks great. You’ve handled the brightness well. Interestingly, the water in the background reminds me of some of the rumpled ice that I see at times. The yellow area on the right is also fine, its brightness fits with the rest of the ice.

@Chris_Baird and @Mark_Seaver, thank you for your encouraging comments.

Very cool ice, Jim. I like the way it contrasts with the water beneath it and that also has a very nice look. The bright area doesn’t particularly bother me, but I do wish the bottom of the image were in focus as well. You don’t mention a crop, so you might looks at cropping in from the bottom and the right just to see if there’s another composition in this image that appeals to you more.

A very cool find! (OK – pun intended…) Lovely and interesting patterns in the ice. I think you could crop in from the top and left to eliminate most of the dark area and from the bottom to minimize the OOF area, to have a more fascinating composition, with less obvious information as to what it is..

Jim: I love ice in most forms. This one really catches the eye, with dark water below setting off the crystals. It may be that you primary subject is the ice crystals, so you might consider cropping from the right and some from the bottom

@Dennis_Plank , @Diane_Miller, and @delton , thank you for your helpful critiques. I have cropped the original image per your suggestions and do like the result.

Well done!

Excellent job on the new crop, Jim.
