First Light Flight

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Last month I had the opportunity to visit the Georgia coast. I love being on the beach before the sun comes up because of the peacefulness and the glorious colors that briefly occur. This particular morning the sky was ablaze in orange. The bird was an added delight, just in time it flew into my composition.

Specific Feedback

Shooting at the sun blows out the image. I assume it’s a no-no!?

Technical Details

OM1 with 40-150mm lens shot at 40mm, 1/800 sec, ISO 200

Kristal, including the unobscured sun in a photo means that either the sun is blown or everything else is black. In this case, you have a fine collection of colors and clouds in the sky, with the bird (and it’s a big one…) as a nice surprise. Centering the sun emphasizes it’s presence in the viewing. Placing the sun either about halfway to left or right in this frame would provide a more dynamic view and let the scattered clouds and various colors in the sky play a stronger role. You do have a fine, “early morning at the beach” feeling here.
